The Osage City Council recently gave the fire department the go ahead to implement said program.

Teens between the ages of 16 and 19 will get to join a firefighter on the job. The mentoring program will allow teens looking to become a volunteer firefighter the ability to assist the fire department in limited capacity.

"The program would allow junior firefighters to roll up hoses and remain beside a mentor running a pump during fires. The teens would not be allowed at crash scenes or real emergency events." - Osage firefighter Tim Blake told KAAL.

A launch date has yet to be set.

According to the Courier, there is a similar program in Manly with regulations already in place to assist with establishing the group.
