The man who invented internet pop-up ads has apologized.

Ethan Zuckerman admits they are 'one of the most hated tools in the advertiser’s toolkit’ and he believes that advertising is the ‘original sin of the web’.

In a recent article, he explains that he had good intentions when he created pop-ups.

The computer scientist also helped to develop software that allows advertisers to see what users click on, which lets them to target consumers in a more personal way.

He also believes that the cure for pop ups and online privacy concerns is to have users pay for the services they love, so that the internet won’t depend on ads to turn a profit.
