Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - The criminal complaint filed against a former executive for a Twin Cities healthcare provider alleges he embezzled almost $270,000 from Allina Health, but prosecutors suspect the actual amount stolen was much higher.

53-year-old David Johnson of Inver Grove Heights was employed as a vice president of Allina Health when he allegedly stole the money by submitting false mileage and personal expense reimbursement requests. A statement issued by Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman notes the criminal charges only cover alleged crimes that occurred within the five-year statute of limitations, but investigators believe the embezzlement scheme began around 2004 and the total amount taken is close to $775,000.

The investigation that led to the filing of seven counts of theft by swindle against Johnson began last May after two Allina employees confronted him about their suspicions involving the validity of his expense reimbursements.
