Outside of the fact that we just went through a week with high temperatures in the 60's, let me present reason 3595632 why it's probably not a good reason to be out on the ice here in Minnesota these days.

Yes, directly from the "You're Kidding Me, Right?" file, crews from both Minnesota and Wisconsin had to rescue a Lakeland man who was floating down the St. Croix River near Hudson, Wis. Tuesday afternoon-- on a chunk of floating ice!

According to a story on BringMeTheNews.com:

"The man was climbing on some ice along the river’s edge near Dike Road in Hudson at about noon Tuesday, when a chunk that he was standing on broke away, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

The slab of ice began floating down the river and passed underneath the I-94 bridge that spans the St. Croix. Several people saw him and called 911 to alert authorities, according to KSTP."

Authorities are using the incident to remind the rest of us that what's left of the ice on area lakes and rivers is not safe, and that we all should stay off. Gee, there's a surprise, huh? Although, I'm guessing the four Olmsted County residents who were rescued after going through the ice on Foster Arend Lake last weekend would no doubt agree, as well.
