Barrett, MN (KROC-AM News)  -  A fiery car wreck in west-central Minnesota early Saturday claimed the life of a teenager.

The State Patrol says the 18-year-old Carter Overson from Barrett was headed north on Highway 55 between Barrett and Elbow Lake when his veered off the road and crashed into an area filled with dry grasses and underbrush. The tinderbox conditions present prior to the spring green-up apparently led to the dried vegetation catching fire under the vehicle and the teenage driver was not able to escape from his burning car.

The deadly crash was reported around 3 AM. Barrett is located about 25 miles west of Alexandria and 25 miles south of Fergus Falls.
