St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - State officials say a seat belt law violation led to the largest known seizure of un-taxed tobacco products in Minnesota history.

Two men from Illinois were recently arrested after the rental truck they were in was pulled over by a State Trooper on I-94 after they bypassed a weigh station and the trooper noticed were they not wearing seatbelts.

A news release says their suspicious behavior and several commercial motor vehicle violations prompted the trooper to escort the trunk to the nearest weight station for an inspection, which led to the discovery of the illegal shipment of tobacco products.

The Minnesota Department of Revenue then joined the investigation and determined more than $74,000 in tobacco taxes should have been paid.
