We all figured it wouldn't take long for this Twins legend to get his number retired, but we didn't think it would be this short of a wait.

Tuesday morning, the Minnesota Twins surprised Joe Mauer with an announcement that they would be retiring his number "7" this summer.

Mauer played his entire 15-year career with the Minnesota Twins, and the Twins made the announcement live on Facebook while at a pep rally at Mauer's Alma matter, Cretin-Derham Hall.  and was then tweeted out by the team's page on Twitter.

As you can see, many others have worn the number 7 in the history of the Twins, but it is a tremendous and well-deserved honor for Mauer to receive. The 6x All-Star, 5x Silver Slugger, 3x Batting Champion, and MVP will have his own number retired in Twins History.

Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton also annouced it was Joe Mauer Day across the state, according to LaVelle E. Neal.

Mauer retired earlier this year, and with how quick the number has been retired, it is pretty obvious how the organization feels about him. We all knew it was coming, but it great that it was annouced so soon.
