Sam Smith was the big winner at the 57th Grammy Awards Sunday in Los Angeles.

Smith took home four top awards: best new artist, song of the year and record of the year for "Stay with Me", and best pop vocal album for In the "Lonely Hour".

Album of the year and best rock album went to Beck's "Morning Phase", and Kanye West faked going up to the stage to join him a la his infamous Taylor Swift incident.

Beck played off it well. "I need some help. Come back!"

Beyoncé made history by winning three Grammys (giving her 20 lifetime) — for best surround album and best R&B song and performance for "Drunk in Love" . She passes Aretha Franklin to become the second-most honored woman in the awards' history behind Alison Krauss' 27 wins.

Miranda Lambert won best country album for "Platinum".

Pharrell Williams' hit song "Happy" won for best solo pop performance.

Among the musical highlights of the performance-heavy awards show: AC/DC rocked the crowd with "Rock or Bust/Highway to Hell"; Jessie J and Tom Jones teamed for a duet on "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" as a tribute to songwriters Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil; Madonna performed "Living for Love"; Kristen Wiig made a surprise appearance in a performance of Sia's "Chandelier"; and Ed Sheeran shared the stage with Jeff Lynne and ELO for a rendition of the band's classic "Mr. Blue Sky". ELO also performed "Evil Woman".

President Obama appeared in a public service announcement about domestic violence before a testimony from abuse survivor Brooke Axtell and Katy Perry's performance of "By the Grace of God".

In pre-show categories, Hayley Williams' win for best rock song with Paramore's "Ain't It Fun" was the first by a woman in that category since Alanis Morissette's "Uninvited" in 1999. Tenacious D's "The Last in Line" picked up best metal performance, best rock performance went to Jack White's "Lazaretto", and St. Vincent's self-titled effort was named best alternative album.

Pharrell Williams' "Girl" nabbed best urban contemporary album while Toni Braxton and Kenny Edmonds won best R&B album for "Love, Marriage & Divorce".

A cappella group Pentatonix won its first Grammy for best arrangement for Daft Punk. Best pop duo/group performance went to "Say Something", A Great Big World's song with Christina Aguilera, while Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga's collaboration "Cheek to Cheek" won for best traditional pop vocal album.

Eminem won two awards, with "The Marshall Mathers LP2" getting best rap album and "Monster" (with Rihanna) garnering best rap/sung collaboration. Kendrick Lamar's "I" also picked up a pair, for rap song and solo performance.

The late Joan Rivers' "Diary of a Mad Diva" won best spoken-word album, and "Weird Al" Yankovic picked up his fourth Grammy win for best comedy album with "Mandatory Fun".

The animated movie "Frozen" picked up two Grammys, with the soundtrack getting best compilation and Let it Go winning for best song written for visual media.
