Rochester, MN  (KROC AM News) - It may be late in the year but work on the next phase of Rochester’s Cascade Park has started.

The city’s Park Board has awarded a nearly $1.3-million contract to Elcor Construction.

The project calls for grading, road and parking lot improvements, trails and a rain garden.

The city has slowly been improving the beach area of the lake, located near the Shorewood Senior Living complex off 2nd St SW. But there is more work planned before it becomes fully functional and the city continues seeking grants to help cover the costs.

At this point in time, the city is shooting for a 2021 full opening of the park and beach.
