Summertime in Minnesota is filled with a lot of outdoor fun. And being outdoors means bug bites. Lots of mosquito bites to be exact. But how do they find us?But at least we don't have those pesky biting flies. I see those a lot in northern Minnesota. And exactly where is the 'cut-off line' where the biting flies stop in MN?
Researchers found that the pesky insects use a trio of senses to find us. First, they sniff us out picking up the scent of our breath from up to 165 feet away. Then they see us from up to 50 feet away and finally they sense our body heat. And then they suck our blood and get swatted.
