While this year's Legislature didn't act on too many big bonding bills, there were still several items passed that will take effect starting tomorrow. According to this ABC-6 story, new laws dealing with the state's general fund, electronic gambling, and those wrongfully convicted all hit the books starting July 1st.

The one that seems to affect most of us-- assuming you haven't been wrongfully sent to prison, that is-- deals with changes to Minnesota's gambling laws. According to the story, one new law "makes it easier for Minnesotans to place bets on their smartphones on out-of-state horse races that are simulcasted at the racetracks."  So if you're heading to Canterbury Park or Running Aces Casino anytime soon, you'll want to make note of this.

The story said other laws deal with allocating 20-percent of the state's budget surplus into programs that will help low and middle-income students at in-state universities and colleges; programs that help make broadband Internet more accessible; and help those wrongfully sent to prison, including a Caledonia man.
