Minneapolis (KROC AM News) -What a season it was for the Minnehaha Academy boys basketball team - a team without a home won its second straight state championship.

The team coasted to a 73-60 win over Caledonia Saturday to win the 2A trophy.

The Redhawks were forced to practice and play at several different venues during the season after an explosion at the private school destroyed the team’s gymnasium.

The explosion just before the new school year began last August killed two employees and injured nine others. It was blamed on a natural gas leak that happened during a construction project. The team arranged practice sessions and games that included the gym at the military base at the Twin Cities airport. The challenge led to a sense of pride as the team began wearing T-shirts bearing the message “No Gym. No Problem.”

Meanwhile, the 4A title game is one that fans won’t soon forget.

Cretin-Derham Hall scored as time was running out to beat defending champion Apple Valley 79-78. The winning shot was a slam dunk by Gopher recruit Daniel Oturu with a half second on the clock.  Apple Valley’s star point guard Tre Jones threw up a long desperation shot that fell short and the game was over.
