The Final Countdown (1980) - Full Movie
A modern aircraft carrier is thrown back in time to 1941 near Hawaii, just hours before the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

You're probably wondering WHY I posted this, right? Well, I've been here at Quick Country for nine years now, and I don't believe I ever told you about the movie I was in while in the US Navy, so I'm taking that liberty today! Yes, I'm in the movie. Little ole me, Steve Richards, humble Quick Country fill-in, and weekend guy.

The Final Countdown is a 1980 alternate history science fiction film about a modern aircraft carrier that travels through time to the day before the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor. Produced by Peter Vincent Douglas (son of Kirk) and directed by Don Taylor, the film stars Kirk Douglas, Martin Sheen, James Farentino, Katharine Ross and Charles Durning. This was Taylor's final film.

Produced with the full cooperation of the US Navy and filmed on board the USS Nimitz supercarrier, The Final Countdown was a moderate success at the box office. In the years that followed, the film has developed a cult status among science fiction and military aviation fans.

From a personal perspective,
the easiest image to point out to you is the image I have highlighted with the yellow arrows below. I am able to spot myself in two other spots in the movie as well, but it's for such a brief second that
I'm unable to get a good screenshot. The entire crew of the Nimitz were considered 'extra's' in the production. I know many in the film with more detailed, and even speaking roles. (See image below - barricade rig for A-7 Corsair tail hook problem.)
The F-14 Squadron I was in , VF-84 (Skull & Crossbones) had a marquee role in this movie for many reasons, and were actively involved in many of the air-to-air sequences with the other aircraft in the movie. A special deployment to Key West, Florida for certain production parts of the movie was part of the whole experience and process.

For a period in the 90's the movie was often in regular feature rotation on TBS - The Super Station. You can now grab the movie on NETFLIX, or anywhere you can download movies, or purchase DVD/BlueRay discs.
