I remember once having a 35 cent fine from the UW-Eau Claire library after I graduated, and having them send me two different notices (at 40 cents per stamp, at the time) to try to recover their 35 cents. I think I finally paid it in person, seeing as I didn't know you could write a check for an amount less than a dollar. I guess you can.

Yes, I'm not exactly sure why our insurance company sent us this massive check you see at the left. I think it has something to do with a new rate we're paying, after we made a few changes to our policy at our most recent renewal. So, yes, they sent us a check for 20 whole cents. Not a quarter, mind you, it's a check worth the equivalent of two dimes.

I'm curious about the time and resources it took to discover the adjustment, refund our money, print the check, and finally spend almost twice the check amount to mail it to us. I realize they're most likely only following policy, and when you add up all the 20 cent overages, it probably amounts to a lot of money. It just seems like there might have been a more efficient way to get our 20 cents back to us, like perhaps a credit on our next bill. Because, I'm guessing I'm going to look kind of silly trying to cash that big check...
