Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A concept plan has been approved for a new housing project for Olmsted County that would be located along Mayowood Road.

The proposal calls for a two-story building with 20 to 30 residential units that would be constructed on county-owned property south of 16th St SW near the Waters Senior Living Center.

The county’s Housing and Redevelopment Authority approved the concept plan Tuesday.

It calls for “a permanent supportive housing facility that would provide housing and on-site support services to those with specific mental health and/or chemical dependency challenges. The housing would serve single adults.”

The HRA hopes to find out later this year if state funds will be approved to help cover the estimated $4.4-million construction cost of the project.

There is a second phase for the site that is being considered that would add another building to serve as affordable rental housing for seniors. There are no firm plans at this point to move ahead with the second phase.
