Stewartville, MN (KROC AM News) - An Olmsted County deputy was forced to use his taser on a suicidal Stewartville woman who was holding a butcher knife to her throat.

Deputies were sent to check on the 52-year-old woman in response to her phone call to dispatch around 2:00 PM Monday. They were told the woman sounded distraught, highly intoxicated and suicidal.

The deputies entered the woman’s home and found her in the living room holding a 12-inch knife to her throat. They talked to the woman for about 15-20 minutes before she put the knife down for a moment. Out of concern for her safety, one of the deputies decided to use his taser before she could pick up the knife.

The woman wasn’t hurt but was taken to St. Marys Hospital for a psychological evaluation.
