A 49-year-old Oronoco man was killed in a fiery traffic crash near Lake City this morning.

The Minnesota State Patrol identified the victim as Brian Schoonover. He was driving a car north on Highway 61 just south of Frontenac when his vehicle crossed over the center line and collided, head-on, with a southbound vehicle around 7:30 a.m.

Schoonover’s vehicle burst into flames following the crash and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other driver, 66-year-old John Scott of Frontenac, was taken to the Lake City Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The crash forced authorities to close the highway to traffic for over three hours.
