It was about time, wasn't it? After a nearly week-long stretch of cold and damp weather, Mother Nature finally cooperated and gave us a beautiful spring weekend across southeast Minnesota. In fact, our weather was distinctly more like summer than it was spring!

According to my completely unscientific thermometer, located on our back deck here in northwest Rochester, we clocked in with a gorgeous high of 82 degrees on Sunday. I snapped that picture to the left at about 3 p.m., while the sun was still fairly high in the sky. (In fairness, our temperature sensor is located directly in the path of the sun as it sets in the west, so during the late afternoon hours, our thermometer is always warmer than the actual ambient temperature in the rest of the Med City is.) Either way, though, 82 degrees on April 17th ain't too shabby.

In fact, statistically speaking, the temperatures we enjoyed over the weekend were really much more like summer than they were spring here in Rochester. According to this U.S. Climate Data site, the average high temperature for April in southeast Minnesota is 57 degrees, with a an average low of 36 degrees. We were well above that last weekend!

Our temperatures this past weekend actually put us on par with the weather we usually experience in July, not April. According to the same Climate Data site, the average high temperature in July in Rochester is 81 degrees-- and our high temperature Sunday was even a degree warmer than that! Now, I know these are average temperatures we're talking about, and certainly there are days that are both warmer and colder than the average.

But still, having the mercury top out at 82 degrees in April -- and without any oppressive humidity or thunderstorms like we typically experience in the summer -- is perfectly fine by me!
