Painting Scam to Watch Out For in SE MN

I had a call from a listener this morning that said there were a group of scammers that are in SE MN. It happened to his mom. Here's how the scam works: They come to your place,(they were at a farm of a widow) and give a cheap estimate to paint buildings.
The listener said they thin the paint down and don't tape windows, etc. They even painted over a piece of fencing that left a shadow of the fence on another building. They even got paint on his son's car.
THEN, after they are about halfway done with their sloppy job, the claim they are "running low on paint and supplies" and will need a check for more.
They then take check and disappear. Have you heard of these scammers? Have you ever been scammed? I got scammed buying a microphone from ebay one time.- Alan
