There's a lot of uncertainty surrounding one of the more popular fast food franchises in America. But what's this spell for Rochester and the surrounding area?

It's no secret that 2018 has been a rough year when it comes to keeping your business open in the Med City. So far several businesses have closed this year, the most recent being The Freight Yard this past week. So when it comes to Subway, we've got some good news, and bad news to share...

First, the bad news:

  • According to USA Today, Subway Restaurants are planning to close an estimated 500 locations in the U.S. over the coming months. That's in addition to the nearly 900 that closed last year.

Now the news that's not necessarily "good" for us, but good for the company:

  • Subway says they're making moves to expand abroad as they plan to open over 1,000 new locations around the world, including countries like Mexico, and South Korea.

A simple Google search reveals we have over 20 Subway restaurants in, and around Rochester so odds are pretty good they won't be closing all of them... Unfortunately, there's really no way to tell who's closing and who's staying open because Subway declined to name which stores in what states would be facing elimination.

Less stores mean less jobs, so whenever those decisions are eventually made, you just hope everyone around here still has a place to work.
