I grew up listening to American Top 40, with Casey Kasem, in my early radio career. He is truly a legend and will be missed. - Alan

Popular radio DJ and TV veteran Casey Kasem passed away at 82 years old early Sunday morning, Father's Day, after suffering from dementia for several years.

Kasem was a huge part of the 'American Top 40' and other shows for decades, as well as the voice of well-known cartoon characters, such as Shaggy from ‘Scooby-Doo.’

Three of his adult children and his second wife, Jean, were battling over his care as well as the children’s right to visit him while he was sick.

His daughter Kerri announced the news of her father’s passing on her Facebook page, saying that he was surrounded by family and friends when he died.

She wrote, “Even though we know he is in a better place and no longer suffering, we are heartbroken....(W)e will miss our dad.”

In his final weeks of life, the family fought over whether or not to keep feeding him, but last week a judge sided with his daughter who didn’t want to feed him through a tube.
