Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) -The unemployment rate in the Rochester area last month was the lowest it has been in nearly 15 years.

The latest statistics from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development put the jobless rate in Olmsted County at only 2.4-percent, which was down 2-tenths of a point from September and a tenth of a point below the rate from October of last year.

A review of historical data shows also shows it is the lowest the jobless rate for Olmsted County since December 2000 when the rate was only 2.2-percent, and the number of people classified as unemployed in the county last month fell below 2000 for the first time since October 2001.

Olmsted County continued to enjoy the lowest jobless rate in the region, where Freeborn County had the highest rate at 3-percent.
