Rochester, MN  (KROC AM News) - Work on a final design of the 2nd street corridor in the area of St. Marys Hospital is expected to begin in the near future.

The City Council was briefed on the geometric plan Monday for the area between 11th and 16th Avenues SW.

A new element will be a proposed transit lane that would be used during certain peak times. The estimated overall cost is $7-million. Most of the work would be done during the 2020 and 2021 construction seasons.

The Council was also updated on plans for a pedestrian subway that would connect St Marys with the north side of the street. A transit center is also being considered across from St Marys.

The council was told Mayo Clinic is planning two new parking ramps that will impact traffic volumes on 2nd street as will more proposed bus routes.
