Rochester Crash Victim Was Minor League Hockey Player

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)  – The State Patrol has released the name of the young man who was killed Saturday morning in a single-vehicle crash on the west edge of Rochester.

25-year-old Michael Doan was a native of Sault Ste. Marie and according to Hockey News and several other media outlets, Doan was an accomplished minor league professional hockey player. He played three years for Northern Michigan in the WCHA before finishing his collegiate career at the University of Windsor in Ontario. He had just finished his first year in professional hockey has a goalie in the Southern Professional Hockey League.

The State Patrol says Doan was driving west on Highway 14 near the Country Club Manor neighborhood when his car left the roadway, went into the ditch, and struck a utility pole before flipping over and coming to rest on its top. The deadly crash was reported around 8:30 a.m.
