Rochester, MN (KROC AM News)  - Rochester home builders enjoyed a surge in business last month.

The City Building Safety Department is reporting that it approved 48 permits for new single-family homes worth about $11.3 million dollars in June. That’s the highest number of permits for new homes since last August and it is the highest total for June since 2006.

Through the first half of the year, new home construction is matching the pace from last year, which was the busiest for local home builders since 2007.

Overall, the city approved 309 building permits valued at over $70 million last month. The valuation total for June included an $18.5 million dollar permit for a project on the St. Mary’s Hospital campus.
