Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) -  A carjacking in Rochester in January has resulted in a 50 month prison sentence for a Rochester man. 31-year-old Nathaniel Wedig earlier entered guilty pleas to first-degree aggravated robbery and attempted vehicle theft charges in Olmsted County Court.

He was accused of stabbing a 51-year-old man with a box cutter after the victim had given him a ride, but refused to hand over his wallet and cell phone. The motorist’s 13-year-old daughter was also in the car and ran to a nearby house to call 911. At that point, Wedig got out of the car and ran to another nearby house and asked the homeowner to call him a cab. The daughter of the homeowner, who is an employee of the Olmsted County jail, happened to stop by to visit her father and placed a call to police after becoming suspicious.

Wedig was also identified as the person who attempted to steal a car from another residence in the area, but who was chased off by the homeowner.

His sentence also covers his conviction on theft charges. He was accused of stealing some equipment from a Rochester business a few weeks after he was hired to work as the lab manager for the denture company. The equipment had been sold to a pawn shop and was recovered by police.
