Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Rochester Public Transit has received some good news and bad news.

The good news is a federal government grant that will allow the city to purchase a new, special bus - the first of its kind to be operated in the city. The bad news is there may not be enough money to buy two of them.

The grant request was for just over $3.1-million with a local cost-share of about $550,000 to purchase two of the buses. But the grant was only for $2.29-million, or more than $800,000 less than what was requested.

RPS spokesman Nick Lemmer says the city is now looking at its options and may use the money to buy just one of the buses and help pay for the charging station.

But Lemmer says the city hopes to find out in December if it will receive a different grant to help buy four articulated buses, a charging system, and solar panels. That grant request totals $6.5-million.
