That's right, Rochester native Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Jack Sock have won the Olympic tennis title in mixed doubles. According to KAAL-TV, their win also meant Venus Williams would not win her record fifth gold medal at this year's games.

The story said, "Mattek-Sands and Sock trailed 6-3 in the deciding super tiebreak then won six straight points. Mattek-Sands thought they had won on their first match point, throwing her racket in celebration, but Sock's return landed just long. They closed it out on the next point."

According to THIS 2010 Rochester magazine interview, Mattek-Sands said that at that time, one of her biggest tennis moments took place right here in the Med City, when she met Monica Selles, who was in town because her dad was seeing at doctor at Mayo Clinic.

"I was super shy then. I got to hit some balls with her. I think I said one word to her, and that was 'thanks' after she autographed my racket cover. It was really cool. I still have the racket cover with the signature," the story noted.

I'm guessing winning a gold medal at the Summer Olympics might be another big 'tennis moment' for the Rochester native. Either way, a huge congratulations from all your pals here at Quick Country 96.5!
