Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Rochester man was stabbed early Friday outside a downtown bar.  

Police say the 40 year old victim apparently got into a confrontation with another man around 1:30 outside the Top Shots bar. The victim was stabbed once in the upper chest and went into the bar seeking help. He was tended to until taken by ambulance to St. Mary’s. Police say the victim had to undergo surgery.

The man who stabbed him fled on foot but a witness was able to give a good description and the suspect was spotted half an hour later walking in the 1100 block of 3rd Avenue SE, near the Seneca canning plant. After the witness made a positive ID, the suspect was arrested and is expected to be charged with 1st degree assault.

Police identified him as 27 year old Abdullahi Mohamed Ali.
