Rochester Seeking Proposals for Armory Building Again
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The Rochester City Council is once again seeking proposals for the armory building on North Broadway.
An effort to find a new use in 2015 ended without a decision and the council decided to get an appraisal of the property so it can be offered for sale.
The council Monday approved a revised RFP (request for proposals) that includes the possible sale of the property or a new lease agreement. The building served as home for the Senior Center for nearly 40 years before the organization moved to a new site last year. Two city-owned parking lots north of the building are also part of the RFP.
Mayor Ardell Brede had earlier said he would oppose a sale of the building. But Monday Brede told the council he will review any proposals the city receives and then decide if he would support a sale.
Proposals are due by May 5th.
The council vote Monday night was 4-3 with dissenting votes coming from members Campion, Johnson and Wojcik.
