The preliminary round of competition got underway Wednesday morning. Among the 285 contestants is Rochester's own Christine Farnberg, from Holy Spirit School, who's competing in the bee for the second year in a row. She won the southeast Minnesota spelling bee championship back in February.

The bee will continue Wednesday and eventually end with Friday’s Championship Finals, according to the event’s website. You can watch the preliminaries on ESPN 3, which is streaming via the Internet. Click here to watch.

The semifinals will be televised live on ESPN 2 Thursday starting at 9 a.m. The Championship Finals will get live airtime on the main ESPN channel Friday evening at 7 p.m.

Good luck, Christine, from your pals here at Quick Country 96.5!
