Is one of the famous Seven Wonders of the World back again this year in Rochester?

It is, if you, like me, think the above photo kind of looks like the Great Pyramid of Giza. Okay, you kind of have to use your imagination, but the peaks of sand KIND of resemble a pyramid, don't they?

The REAL Great Pyramid of Giza is, of course, not here in southeast Minnesota, but is instead located in Egypt.

I took this picture Sunday morning, while on a bike ride around the Cascade Lake Trail in northwest Rochester. The sand peaks-- I mean, the pyramids-- are created by the sand that's being mined from Cascade Lake.

I first noticed the 'pyramids' last summer, and wrote THIS post about them-- and why they were there in the first place. Being that I use the Cascade Lake Trail fairly often, I noticed that the sand mining operations shut down for the season sometime last fall, and these massive piles of sand had pretty much disappeared.

But, now that summer's (almost) in full swing, it looks like they're back. And while you do kind of have to use your imagination, every time I run by them, or ride by on the bike, they remind of those pyramids. (Apparently, I need to get out more!)
