Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Good timing for Rochester-area swimmers who are looking for ways to beat the weekend heat.

The city plans to open its Soldier Field swimming pool Saturday at noon. The Silver Lake pool is scheduled to open Monday.

This will mark the first year the pools will be managed and operated by the Rochester Swim Club Orcas.

The Park Board approved the arrangement earlier this year in hopes of increasing attendance. The arrangement means the swim club assumes responsibility for managing and programming activities at both pools.

The club is planning a  party at the Soldiers Field pool Sunday to mark its season opening.  Activities will run from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and the movie ”Finding Nemo” will be shown from 8:00-10:00 p.m.
