Sure, it's a lovely green oasis during the spring and summer, but have you ever checked out Soldiers Field Park in Rochester during the winter?

We did this past weekend, and I have to say, it was pretty beautiful. Of course, Sunday's almost-perfect winter weather day helped, but being able to get outside and explore our Minnesota landscape along the Zumbro River right here in Rochester was pretty cool. (Or was that just the wind chill? Kidding!)

We used our snowshoes to hike out across what during the spring and summer is the Soldiers Field golf course. Now, because I'm not a golfer, I never really had the chance to walk through that part of the park before. It's pretty cool! During the winter, though, snowshoes allow you to get a way-cool view not only of that part of the part, but some unique views of downtown Rochester, too.

(If you haven't tried snowshoeing, HERE are some places in Rochester you can rent snowshoes to see how you like it.)

It also looked like there were several different cross country ski trails that snaked across the park. And, WinterFest, of course, has some cool events slated for Soldiers Field Park, too. Like the 3rd Annual Ice Skating on the Oval, set for this Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. (You can get more info on that event HERE.)
