Do you look at the RPU Home Energy Report -- the one that lists where you rank compared to similarly-sized households when it comes to home energy usage?

Well, not to brag, but I'm proud to report that, according to the latest edition that was just mailed out a few days ago, our house has moved up to #14! That puts us in the 'Great' category, and in the top 20 percent when it comes to energy usage.

I'm not sure when exactly RPU started sending the Home Energy Reports out, but it seems like it was a couple of years ago. It's a neat program that can really help you zero in on where you might be wasting energy. My wife and I have always tried to conserve as much energy as possible, so it's been interesting to note where we rank, hypothetically, compared to other homes our size. (I should note that the reports are completely anonymous, and only show usage averages, not figures of individual home usages.)

We were really pumped last spring when we were ranked #9 out of 100. Then, thanks to what we assume was increased usage from our dehumidifier downstairs last summer, we fell in the rankings to near 26.

Now, though, we're back up to our third-highest ranking, at #14. If we have another warm Spring, and we don't use our furnace as much as last year, we just might be able to top our highest ranking of #9.  And, a side benefit is, of course, that the higher you're ranked, the more money you're saving!
