Outside of maybe money issues, few things can be as contentious in a household as setting the temperature on your air conditioner or furnace. But check out how warm RPU says you should set yours.

My wife and I agree on just about all of the main issues one encounters when in a relationship, except for setting the temperature on our central air conditioner. We don't get into big arguments, mind you, but while I'm always trying to nudge the temperature down in the summer, my wife usually tries to keep it warmer.

During the winter, we usually have our heat seat at 65 or 66 degrees, though we do use the fireplace in our living room to help warm things up. In the summer, if we use our AC, which we try NOT to do too much, we've agreed to keep it set at 75 degrees.

I will admit, though, I sometimes try to nudge it down to 74, or if I'm really warm, maybe 73. (When I lived by myself back in Wisconsin, though, I used to set the AC all the way down at 68! That was mainly to keep my upstairs bedroom cool-- which would routinely be about 12 degrees warmer than downstairs.)

But in a Twitter post from last week, RPU recommended you set your AC way warmer than that: They said, "We recommend 78 degrees or higher for comfort and efficiency."

Whoa. 78 degrees... OR HIGHER?!? I know I like it cold, but, come one-- 78 degrees (or higher) is pretty warm inside! Heck, why even turn your AC on at all?!? Even my wife and I agreed that seems a wee bit high.

So, what say you-- what temperature is your AC set at?
