Saluting Our Local Law Enforcement Heroes

With our Salute to American Heroes headed Harvest Jam at the Olmsted County Fairground this Saturday, I had the chance to thank some of our local law enforcement heroes in person on Tuesday.

The Harvest Jam American Heroes Stage (powered by Home Solutions Midwest and First Alliance Credit Union) is welcoming Rodney Atkins, along with local and regional favorites The Plott Hounds, JT & The Gunslingers and Roadhouse 6.

And, as a thank you for all their dedication and service towards keeping us safe, I was able to hand out a few Harvest Jam passes to several local law enforcement agencies. While all of us are no doubt appreciative of their efforts, being able to thank these individuals is even more personal to me, as my dad was a police officer for over 30 years back in Wisconsin. I know the sacrifice first hand these public servants are sometimes asked to make.

While others perhaps see only the badge or uniform when they encounter a law enforcement officer, it's much more personal to me. I see that officer as a father or mother, a brother or sister, a husband or wife-- all of whom put their lives on the line each day, not knowing if they'll return home at the end of their shift. There are not too many other jobs that require one to possibly make such a sacrifice. They have an incredibly difficult job to do, yet they get up, put on the uniform and do it anyway. And, for that, I'm very grateful.

I'm hoping some of them will be able to join us Saturday at Harvest Jam Saturday to relax and have a good time. Thank you for all you do!  (And, given our time and travel constraints, we weren't able to visit all local law enforcement agencies.
