Sure, President Obama's nomination of Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court was big news Wednesday but it also caused some other news: like the postponement of Minnesota Senator Al Franken's annual Hot Dish Competition.

Yes, seeing as Sen. Franken serves on the Senate Judiciary Committee-- which would hold hearings on the nomination of judge Garland-- the Minnesota Senator's office released a statement Wednesday saying the 6th annual 'Hot Dish-Off' wouldn't take place as scheduled. The release said to "stay tuned for further updates."

Sen. Franken started the bipartisan cooking competition back in 2011 as a way for Minnesota's congressional delegation to put aside the partisan bickering and show off their cooking chops in a uniquely Minnesotan way. "The annual hot dish competition gives an opportunity for the Minnesota Congressional delegation to take a break from partisanship and come together over a vibrant Minnesota tradition: hot dish," the senator said, according to a release on BringMeTheNews.com.
