Deephaven, MN (KROC AM News) - A memorial service has been announced for the first boys basketball coach at Rochester Mayo High School.

Wallace “Wally” Brunswold died March 10th at the age of 88. He had been living in Deephaven when he died.

According to his obit:

Wally taught and coached at St. Charles and Rochester John Marshall high schools before joining the inaugural staff at Rochester Mayo High School in 1966 as a guidance counselor and head boys varsity basketball coach. In his 21-year tenure, he held the Spartans to five Big 9 Conference championships and three state tournament appearances. He was inducted into both the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame and the Rochester Quarterbacks Club Sports Hall of Fame.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 8 at All Saints Lutheran Church, 15915 Excelsior Boulevard, Minnetonka. Visitation begins one hour prior.

Internment and a gathering of friends will take place in Walker sometime this summer.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be directed to the Hope Lutheran Church High School Scholarship Fund or the Parkinson’s Foundation.
