An off-duty police officer who was riding his motorcycle in New Prague crashed his motorcycle and suffered severe injuries, authorities reported Sunday.

The wreck occurred about 7:10 p.m. Saturday on Hwy. 19 at 11th Avenue NW. in New Prague, according to the State Patrol incident report.

The rider Scott C. Weiers, 48, was taken to North Memorial Medical Center with life-threatening injuries after his 2003 Honda Motorcycle, crashed into the center median of a roundabout. The Star Tribune reports that Weiers is a member of the Shakopee Police Department. 

Weiers was heading west on Hwy. 19 when the crash occurred. The patrol reported that alcohol played a role in the wreck, and Weiers was not wearing a helmet.

Responding to the crash were the Scott County Sheriffs Office, New Prague Police, North Memorial Air Care.
