Oh, the weather outside is frightful,...blah, blah, blah! I remember growing up on a farm between Pine Island and Mantorville. We lived right on the 'school district border' and the bus turned around in our driveway. And to this day, people still think I'm a 'border case!' HA!

Some kids are so happy when there's a snow day, but to me, it meant more work. As the only son in the family, when there was a snow day, that meant my dad yelling, "Alan, it's time to clean calf pens!" And if you've been on a farm, you know what I mean. We had to pitch the manure over the top boards, then into the barn cleaner. But hey, at least there wasn't any school work assigned that day. That's all changed with technology.

Some schools are now having virtual school days when school is cancelled due to snow.
One school district in New Jersey had students log in on school-provided laptops during a recent snow day.

The students were able to ask teachers questions, work through assignments or jump into class discussions, even if they sometimes took breaks to shovel the walkways.
