Here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, it's not unusual to see a dog or two playing around in the water or lounging around on the dock or pontoon when you're at the cabin or lake up north. But Saturday, all sorts of dogs were jumping in the water in the parking lot at Apache Mall.

It was all part of the Super Retriever Series, which was set up in the parking lot at Apache Mall, as a part of Scheel's Hunting Expo. Competing on Saturday were the Elite and Super / Amateur Super Fly, the Jr Flyers Mini Fly, and the Seniors. And they were incredible!

The dogs get a running start across the dock, and then catch some air as they soar into the water, all to retrieve their favorite toy. It was quite the spectacle to watch!  I kept thinking that our dog, Chance, who would chase a tennis ball in the lake pretty much all day long, would have been a decent Splash Dog (as they refer to them), had I only been aware of the competition when he was back in his prime.

It was a cool event, and I'm glad I got the chance to see it. Hopefully, they'll return during Scheel's Hunting Expo next year. Here's what the Super Retriever Series looks like (though this one was shot at a few years ago at a Scheel's Expo in Nebraska).
