Rochester, MN (KROC AM News)  - A 21-year-old Preston abandoned his pickup truck after he lost control and crashed into a retention pond near Apache Mall in Rochester early Saturday.

The State Patrol identified the motorist as Zachary Finley.

Authorities learned of the crash shortly after 1 p.m. when an employee of Pulvers Towing spotted vehicle tracks and a damaged light pole in the ditch leading to the pond.

A statement issued by the Rochester Fire Department says the man then saw what he believed was the roof of a car in the pond. He then swam out to the submerged vehicle and broke out the back window to see if anyone was inside. After firefighters and Police officers arrived at the scene, the pickup was pulled out of the pond and it was confirmed it was unoccupied.

A search was then launched around and in the pond for a possible victim before Finley was located and it was determined there were no injuries.
