Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A local burglary suspect was apprehended Tuesday, thanks in large part to technology.

Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office Captain Scott Behrns says 37 year old Todd Black was arrested after a search of his home at 605 13th Ave SE in Rochester turned up numerous items that had been reported missing in residential burglaries reported Monday in rural northwest Olmsted County.

Black is also a suspect in at least one of the burglaries reported in the Byron area last Friday.

Behrns says one of the victims had an app that was able to track a stolen electronic item to Black’s residence. Investigators were also able to obtain surveillance video of Black using a stolen debit card at a local convenience store. Using this information, a search warrant was obtained and officers went to his home Tuesday morning.

Behrns says more arrests are expected as investigators are convinced others were part of the crime spree that apparently involved other burglaries than those reported in the past few days. Among the items found at Black’s residence were several instruments owned by Century High School reported missing June 30th. They had been sent to Schmidt Music for repair and were being stored in a trailer. They were valued at $11,000.
