Last year, I was enthralled when the city of Rochester repaved the portion of 2nd Ave that runs in front of the Quick Country studios, so imagine my giddiness now that the road in front of our house has been repaved, too!

Our little residential street in northwest Rochester was getting a little rough, as I noted earlier this year. And, I don't want to say the pot hole right in front of our driveway was all that big, but I did see someone setting up a gift shop next to it, selling souvenirs to all tourists who stopped by. I don't want to say the pot hole was all that big, but I did see a mule train leading tourists to the bottom and back. I don't want say that pot hole was all that big, but after it rained, I saw a few neighborhood kids setting up a diving board so they could swim in it.  Yes, I have a million of these.

And, here's the newly-paved look of our street now.

It sure is nice and smooth now, though. And once the city gets the pavement surrounding all the manhole covers patched, it'll be one nice ride. As I watched the crews first mill the existing pavement down, and then lay down the new asphalt, I was reminded that not much has changed since I was a kid. I used to be fascinated by watching crews and their big machines work to build and repair the streets of central Wisconsin near my house. Now I'm still doing it-- and am still very appreciative of their work!
