If you're like me, you find yourself always double-checking your pockets to make sure your wallet and car keys are still there.  Call it a nervous habit. These days, I'm also always double-checking to make sure my phone is somewhere around me too.  Also a nervous habit. Not an effective one, apparently, because I left our house earlier today without my iPhone. D'oh!

Talk about feeling disconnected! Here's how it happened: In my haste to get every last ounce of charge into my phone before heading into work, I kept it plugged in and sitting on the nightstand in our bedroom. Which is where it STILL is. Normally, I bring it out and set it on the table in our foyer, near the car keys, and also as a visual reminder to TAKE IT WITH ME!

Now, while I'm here at the station, I'm about as connected as one really can be these days-- I've got a high-speed Internet connection, a working computer, and several phone lines-- yet I still feel disconnected!  I guess I didn't realize how much I've come to depend my phone, especially when it comes to organizing (or attempting to, anyway) my daily tasks (love those iPhone Notes and Reminder apps!) and for storing contact information-- I'm embarrassed to say how few numbers I remember off the top of my head!

According to Wikipedia, "nomophobia" is defined as "the fear of being out of mobile phone contact."  It's short for no-mobile-phone phobia.  And, as much as I'm ashamed to admit it, it looks like I'm an active nomophobe!  At least until I get home, that is...
