Tentative Deal Avoids Teacher Strike in St Paul
St Paul (KROC AM News) - There will NOT be a teachers strike in St Paul Tuesday.
St Paul public school teachers and staff announced last week they were prepared to walk off the job and set up picket lines on Tuesday if they did not have a new labor contract.
The union and district met with a mediator through the weekend in hopes of working out an agreement. The union announced early Monday the talks were successful and there will be no strike. No details were announced and there is no word on when a vote will take place.
The union was seeking pay increases of 2 ½ percent in each of the two years of the agreement. The district had offered a 1-percent increase.
The district has about 3,200 teachers and nearly 37,000 students.
