As of tomorrow, August 1st, a bunch of new laws go into effect in Minnesota. One of the laws is the fine increase for texting while driving. Currently the fine for that is $50.00. To some, it may not seem like a lot and to others, it could mean not having food on the table.
The fine will increase to $225.00! According to the MN Dept. of Public Safety, almost 20% of traffic deaths and serious injuries are from 'distracted driving'. That works out to about 60 deaths and over 7,000 injuries a year.
Who gets busted? Anyone doing this: Composing or sending texts, e-mails, or surfing the web like being on Facebook while you're in a vehicle that is in motion OR stopped at a traffic light or stop sign.
And they'll know what you're doing, too, because nobody drives and constantly looks at their crotch. - Alan
