That Time I Played Against the Harlem Globetrotters

The Harlem Globetrotters just wrapped up a trip to the Med City this past weekend, which got me thinking of the time I got to play against the world-famous basketballers myself.

Of course, I possess virtually no basketball skills at all, so as you might guess, my appearance on the court didn’t go well. This all took place about six years ago at the North High School field house back in Eau Claire.

I was working at a radio station there, and we were promoting the Globetrotters' appearance. As the picture shows, I got to suit up for the Washington Generals – the team that’s the perennial opponent of the Globetrotters, yet is never able to win a game.

I certainly didn’t help them in their cause to beat the Globetrotters that night. Did I make their patented 4-point shot? Uh, that’d be a no. Come to think of it, did I make any shot at all? That’d be another no!

But it still was a pretty good time. And shout-out to Val and Samm, who suited up and took on the guys from our sister station, KROC-FM, before Friday's Harlem Globetrotters game at Mayo Civic Center!
