Seeing as it's Throwback Thursday, I'm throwing this one back five weeks ago when I saw Kacey Musgraves at Target Center in Minneapolis and she revealed a 'secret' that blew my mind.

Well, okay 'secret' is probably a little inaccurate. But Kacey Musgraves DID blow my mind right as she was introducing a vaguely-familiar sounding song.

It turned out to be a way-cool version of the Miranda Lambert song, Mama's Broken Heart. I've always liked that song, which was a pretty decent hit for Ms. Lambert back in 2013. It's from her 'Four The Record' album, which was released in 2011.

But here's what blew my mind: When Kacey started her version of the song, it sounded way different than the Miranda version we're all used to hearing. But yet it still sounded familiar too. (Does that ever happen to you? You hear a song lyric that's completely familiar, but the music is completely different?)

Anyway, Kacey said something like, "Here's a song I wrote-- sing it if you know it," as she launched into it. Boom. Mind blown. Kacey Musgraves wrote Mama's Broken Heart?!? How did I not know that?!?

But sure enough, it's right there on the track listing, along with noted Nashville songwriters Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally. Which totally makes sense, because Kacey's stuff is always AWESOME. Whether it's her songs like Merry Go Round and Follow Your Arrow, or stuff of her new album, Golden Hour, I've always loved the way she can write and perform songs with real meaning. I just had no idea she wrote one of my other favorite country songs!

(BTW, Kacey will be the musical guest on this week's (May 12th) Saturday Night Live, too.)
